Yep, got all three seasons of Star trek on DVD. I’ll need to get them out of the box again and watch ‘em soon. On a different note is interesting to see the different lengths between the original star trek episodes (50 minuets) and modern shows (45 or even 40 minuets) You sure get better value for money back then.
I have to say of the films I enjoyed star trek II, III, IV most. They were almost like a trilogy in there way. Star trek III seems to get a panning from a lot of people but it has two of the best scenes in any star trek film in my opinion. The stealing of the Enterprise and its eventual destruction were very spectacular and it was quite sad in a way to see the old girl go.
Of the later incarnations of trek I enjoyed Deep Space 9 and The Next Generation, though the first few seasons of TNG were not so hot. Data says: “Sir, Romulan warbird de-cloaking of the starboard bow” Captain Jean-Luc Picard replies: “Hmm, better have a conference in the ready room”
On the subject ‘Enterprise’, that was really bad. I always new a prequel would be a bad idea and even then they really did not take the series in the right direction. Not being a diehard fan that knows all about the history of the Federation or anything I thought it would have been interesting to explore the early years of Human inter-stellar space travel leading up to the eventual foundation of the Federation. Something like looking at long story arcs dealing with budding relationships between Humans and other races. Maybe even a first Klingon war/skirmishes and hostility with the Romulan Empire. Instead they came up with some drivel about a temporal cold war? Eh? All righty then. Ever since Rick Berman & Brannon Braga started buggring about with trek it has all gone down hill. That Braga fellow never really wrote an episode of anything that I enjoyed. He seemed to love his techno babble too. Like “re-connect the rear port transducer to the starboard phase discriminator and bypass the central dylitham coupler”. Nuts! What was it Harrison Ford said to Gorge that one time? “You can type this &%$£ but you can say it.”
Edit: On the topic of William Shatner, he seems to have mellowed out these days and takes him self less seriously. He’s also quite funny, check him out congratulating Gorge Lucas for a lifetime achievement award of some sort…
