There has been a loud and belligerent howl from rightwing media seeking to demonize Blue cities and states, but, when one looks at the actual stats, the crime rates in those places is either lower than the RW media loudly claims or has risen in some categories by far lees than claimed; there are not a few people in the alleged 'crime cesspools' who are scratching their heads over what the hell y'all are on about...
As far as your wager, as someone who has lived in LA well over 50 years, I can personally say I've seen it much, much worse in the past; and the bulk of our serious crime is the handiwork of home-grown street gangs and other organized opportunist who plague the city; border control on the Southern Border does us who are well north of the Border little good when the trouble is coming in, most often legally, through the airports and ports; if you really want to mitigate the effects of migrant crime, the whole system needs to be reviewed and revamped, not just a band aid of a wall...

You definitely have to look at local news outlets to find the numbers. Search crime ‘sanctuary cities’ and the results come back debunked, no crime spikes, all is well, it’s just a myth.
Search crime on local news sites like Tampa, FL which is also a sanctuary city. Crime over all is down but violent crime, is up since 2020.
I suppose we’d have to check court records to know who is actually committing the crimes. I’d wager it’s a combination of problems, immigration, poor economy, drug use the list goes on,
