Id wager big money that if anyone in the Trump campaign did say its not an appropriate time. It would be due the fact Democrats have yet to formerly nominate a president or a vice president. Makes perfect sense to want to wait for that to happen first don’t you think?
Otherwise if Harris botched the debate before she’s even nominated they can’t pull a switcheroo like they did with Biden when he made a fool of himself.

Two things:
1. Formal debates occur after both nominations are complete. Note, the dems agreed to debate PRIOR to Joe Biden being nominated officially. This IMO was by design and the true groundwork for giving Biden the boot.
2. Trumps campaign staff needs to regroup because they were baited with Biden and planned accordingly. Then the dems did the switch. Now, it is best to let the "We love Kamala" fanfare to die down. Give the general public time to really see Harris as so far left she is beyond plant Pluto.
Let Harris talk as much as she likes. It will be quite evident she is not up to the task. She will be seen as a puppet. And the continual use of racism and sexism will not serve her well. If there truly was racism or sexism she would not be VP. Racism narrative left the building after Obama two terms.
