It seems that China can overflow carrier groups' aerial defences, both missiles and planes, by simply accepting the high costs for itself. It may loose more planes, yes. But in the end probably will catch the carrier that simply has run out of ammo in "the ready racks" during the battle. Oversaturating defences is somethign there is no remedy to if the attackers is ready to accept his own losses. And China fighting close to its homebases can afford these. A fleet far away from home bases cannot.
Or China, by other threats and means , just keeps the carriers far enough away and outside their striking range. Neutralising US carriers is a top priority for the Chinese, if not THE top priority, militarily. We can safely assume that over the past 20 years they made steep progressions here. I do not take a US victory as naturally granted as many others do.

But maybe most relevant: simple Chinese coast guard cutters - by the hundreds.
