Pay particular attention to the chart for the "Waters around England", as an example:
You will note that these are real charts and the hacture marks, (the alternating white/black indices around the peripheral of the chart are actual Latitude/Longitudes in degrees.) They're not just for decoration. Its a simple matter of nautical skill to find Lat/Long along the margins of the charts.
Furthermore, these same hacture marks are also located around the F5 screen chart of SH3, in case anyone ever noticed...although, you'll have to think a little to discover how to use them...hint...your base of operations is listed in Lat/Long at the beginning of each patrol and mission.
Latitude = east/west sides of the chart
Longitude = north/south sides.

Tnx to point that out, I never noticed those black&white marks..anyway, that converter is more "user-friendly" and faster to use while in game.
