I was pulling his leg, but for the record, he did explicitly refer to real golf when he said that in reality you do this and that and "would not aim".

Well, you must aim the drive. I know - since it gives me nothing but troubles. I spray my first shots off the tee in a 35° arc left and right off the intended target line.
