Oleksandr Syrskyi earned him the gruesome nickname of "Butcher" overseeing last year's dogged 9-month defence of Bakhmut it is one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the war so far described as a "meat grinder" and a "vortex" for both the Ukrainian and Russian militaries.
