She is looking at JFK when he is shot, so she possibly couldn't see where the shot came from. Trying to make sense as to what and why she does what she did is pointless. She just saw her husband's head pop open, she tried to simply get away from the situation.
Edit: Re: "magic bullet" That's just one image of it, others show it is much more damaged than that.
