I agree with you both mates, recently, I was on a patrol, near Dover, very close to the harbour and laying in the bottom of the sea. I cannot understand how, the destroyer could detect me with active sonar!!. How can she detect me and not get confused with the ocean floor!!. Clearly, active sonar is not well recreated in the sim. (and as you said, it can pass through rock!!! , arghhhhh!! lol )
About pasive sonar, I agree with Redwine in that it must be reduced the angle in which the ship can detect you in the way it comes the sim cames out of the box.
If not its tooooo efective!!

The hole bug with the destroyers happened to me also in the harbours, very funny at the beggining, but, as someone said, it takes out the all the fun at the end .
