Kremlin Conducts Chilling Nuclear War Drills Across Russia to Prepare for Potential WWIII
In a chilling moment for residents of Russia, sirens sounded, and children wore gas masks as the country simulated the response to a potential World War III.
Eerie sirens and doomsday-like messages were broadcast as the Russian government conducted a nuclear war drill, Knewz.com has learned.
Russia planned the drills part of preparation for a nuclear attack from the West, which the Kremlin considers the aggressor in world relations. The drills come as Russia is suspected of testing a nuclear missile.
Disturbing footage showed schoolchildren being instructed on how to correctly wear gas masks, according to the Daily Star.
The drill, equipped with sirens and loudspeakers, was conducted across all 11 time zones in Russia. "Attention everyone. There is a check of readiness of the warning system to the population. Please remain calm," blasted through the country as messages flashed on screen and interrupted TV programs.
Emergency services were gathered in hazmat suits and a group ran from a building carrying a dummy body on a stretcher while accompanied by a pack of dogs, according to the news outlet.
High-level Russian officials and police were hunkered down in bunkers during the country's first nation-wide civil defense exercise.
Though Russians have said the United States and other Western countries would be the likely culprits of a possible nuclear attack, it's unclear if that is Russia President Vladimir Putin's real fear or mere propaganda.
Irina Tsukerman told The Express that "Putin is not seriously concerned about possibility of a nuclear or other major scale attack by NATO."
Continuing, "The practice of martial law is particularly useful as Putin continues to crack down and isolate Russia from external influence. In reality, Russia is not preparing for a nuclear attack; it's preparing for a long-term imposition of internal restrictions, such as martial law."
The U.S. was also expected to issue a public emergency warning system at 2:20 p.m. EDT on October 4.
