My two cents:
Actions have consequences. Drop a pebble into a pond and it'll create a ripple; drop several thousand tons of explosives into a pond and it'll create a tsunami. This is only a ripple, I said three weeks ago when Israel began destroying Lebanon, killing civilians by the hundreds, and displacing hundreds of thousands more into the winds as refugees, that there would be blowback. This kind of incident is blowback and its as predictable as the sun setting at night.
By the way I no more condone this man's killing of innocent civilians than I do the killing of civilians by the IDF in Lebanon or by Hezbollah in Israel - all of it serves only to serve the same never ending cycle that this is a symptom of. And there is nothing "crazy" about it; "crazy", in the clinical sense, implies the man was psychotic and out of touch with reality, while "crazy" (or more accurately "insane") in the legal sense means he didn't know right from wrong. I don't believe he was either.
What he is, is a mass murderer and they all fit the same generic profile: they are people with poor impulse control, loose bonds to society, a belief that their predicament/failures are not their fault but are instead externalized (a persecution/oppression complex), and an overwhelming desire (it can be pure hatred or hatred rationalized as righteous fury) to punish either society in general or one element of it in particular; the nature of the persecution/oppression complex determines who the victims will be. Finally, there is the "triggering event".
To apply the above profile to this individual based on what we know so far, the poor impulse control can be seen in the lewd conduct charge; one lack of a bond to society he has is his lack of employment, though there are probably others as well ( a loner, poor family relations, etc), and he probably blame his unemployment on society, and maybe even the 3rd reich myth that "the Jews control everything". The trigger, then was the events in Lebanon where suddenly this guy has a target for his hatred and he can rationalize the violence and hatred he wants to unleash on this Jewish group on the basis of their "collateral damage" in Lebanon; by the way, most mass killers commit suicide after their act (as they see themselves as martyrs that is the consumation of it) and almost all believe they will achieve a measure of notoriety that they'd never achieve otherwise.
Anyway, I think the "terrorism" lable is over used. I think this is blowback but of the relatively spontaneous, disorganized type and the real blowback is yet to come.
