I hope so. The guy's an outstanding actor and makes excellent movies while avoiding the lemons so many otherwise good actors are drawn to just for a paycheck. A lot of my all time favourite movies are Mel Gibson movires as well, such as Braveheart and Payback to name just two.

As to celebrities having opinions, I say why not, everyone else has one and I can separate the actor's opinions on an issue from my valuation of his acting ability. Then there is the fact that some of these guys lend their "opinions" and efforts and names, and even money, to good causes, like charities, that benefit tremendously from the actor's support.
