Newcastle NSW Australia.
Founded in the late 1700s. Always been an important Port for Primary Industry exports - wheat, wool, coal, etc. Used to have many huge industries - steelworks, chemical plants, manufacturing industries, shipbuilding and repairs....
I grew up there.....It's changed beyond recognition. The factories have all shut down - either deliberately by Woke multinational owners or "Green" pressure.
The city had a building boom and is now full of high rise apartment blocks. Coffee shops everywhere, bourgeois lifestyle aspirants.
It's also got a history of earthquakes all the way back to first white settlement, which people seem to deliberately forget about....Very roughly every 50 years there's a big ( 5 on Richter Scale ) earthquake. During early years not much damage was caused, because you weren't allowed to build above 1 storey, due to the whole city being undermined by coal mines. But during the 1920s earthquake there was real panic in the streets. And of course the 1989 earthquake.
Now apparently, anything goes re high rise construction......I'm glad I moved out. It's only a matter of time.
