I made it gray once, so no, it's not hard-coded.
I seem to re-call it's a .tga file someplace. Two .tga files, actually, one for the bar and one for the right edge of it. If you know what I mean, which you probably don't

I remember them as little square images (not more than 10x10 pixels or so).
