IID U-139 9th patrol 29 May 1941 from Kiel, 18 sailing days.
Last patrol on type II, was assigned the command of new type VIIC U 451 at Brest.
Got damaged twice by hurricanes (hull 91%) but saw Spitfires, Beauforts & Beaufighters planes too, along Brit coasts...
Once in Brest harbor, an air raid of half dozens Beaufighters blow up 2 Germans ships there. Never saw such intense air raid yet They were not sitting ducks like heavy bombers!
(couldn't take pictures, was so impressed and worried for my sub)

Our big warships are resting in Brest, few minutes later, was under Beaufighters fire...
