It might be because of Silent Hunter IV.

Silent Hunter III is my first real sub game (the only other thing I've ever played is the 688 demo).

I grew tired of playing RTS and FPS games and wanted some variation. So I thought, "hey, why not a submarine game"? I started a thread asking for recommendations and got Silent Hunter III. I read some reviews and watched some movies, and here I am.
