If you think McAfee can be the reason, then you should completely uninstall McAfee and SH5 as a test and then reinstall SH5 + TWoS again and test it. Or you can try first an exception for the SH5 folder and all .exe files there.
In my opinion is no additional virus scanners on Win10 or Win11 necessary, because Windows' own virus protection is usually enough and very good. But that's just my opinion and everyone has to decide for themselves.
