The United States has nothing to do with this. These countries decided they love liberty, freedom and the right to think for themselves. They have an inalienable right to do that. If you like living in Russia and being led around by the nose and having others do your thinking for you, that's your right as well. Good luck with that.
The Ukraine reserves the right to have and maintain it's freedom as well. Only a small man and dictator like Putrid would have an issue with that. One thing is certain. The countries that had been subjugated by Russia will never return to the fold. You and Russia will see war up close and personal if you decide to try to reclaim those countries. The Ukraine is an example of this.
If you don't like what is happening in Russia, show some courage and remove him or take him out. That's a problem and decision for the people of Russia. If you do like what Russia is doing, then live with the consequences.
