IMO, mistrust of the Federal Government runs pretty high in the western states, always has. I have lived in various parts of the region my entire life and while there are some Radical Anti-Government groups around, the feelings of the majority of those who distrust the Feds are more ambivalent in nature, "If you leave us alone there won't be any issues". It's also the reason that when the Feds do "overstep" or come down heavy-handed,( Ruby ridge, Waco, Bundy, WWII internment camps, forced Indian relocations, etc.). Some of us tend to side with the "Locals" even though the "Locals" may be in the wrong "legally".

We don't trust them much in Florida either.
