Well, well, well. Books can be full of all kinds of dangerous words and stuff so it's simply better to keep people uneducated. Of course, I must be a dangerous member of some intelligensia by simply owning books, even a first edition of
Gone With the Wind.
You can't stop progress, but you can slow it down, and every new generation will have it's new (even if sometimes old) ideas on how the world should work. Dwelling in the past leads to stagnation but some people try pretty hard to just that.
