Yep same with mine i think they all like this with key printed on dvd or printed on booklet, i got a feeling this guy unknownly brought a pirate copy.
Ive installed SH3, three times since ive had it and its always asked me to enter the key before it does the first dvd check. Its not asked for when playing over the net but a working cd key is checked.
