I believe you misunderstood what I was saying. The Sim.cfg does affect the sensors as does the setting or the units skill to veteran elite etc but the sim.cfg controls this. Example, if the light factor is set to 3.0(default in TMO) in sim.cfg and have darker nights mod enabled, they are pretty much blind, even elite escorts, bring to 2.9, they can actually spot player but not snipers as before, lower it more, they become snipers again.
Same concept with sonar but default settings are mostly sufficient aside from the wave factor, lowered it, get light chop and escorts become useless basically. Have found though no matter the escort's skill, depends on the gear they are equipped with . As mentioned the early war Type 93 1A and 1P even on an elite escort were pretty ineffective, so all escorts have Type 93 3A and 3P from start of war and it's solved the issue. All are set to Veteran and a few to Elite, tested with both. Once get into 44 with the 5A and 5P combined with the Type 2 depth charges, they are dangerous. However, having just played into 1945 from end of war, noticed there was no marked improvement in performance in 1945 I remember, so thinking it is because they do not have the Type 3 1A and 1P sonar set.
I noticed there is Type 3 sonar which by default some units get later in war, I assumed it is the best sonar i.e. most capable but was asking if this is correct. Last year when I added a bunch of ships to TMO, I thought the Type 93 5A and 5P were the best so equipped all escorts with it in later war and are pretty tough but not what expected.
Just trying to get things in line before release.
