I don't know how I'd feel visiting it in person knowing it's creepy history. The Golden House was torn down and this was built on top of its ruins by Vespasian and Titus.
The North African Lion, North African Elephant, became practically extinct in Roman times. Tigers, Leopards, Rhinos, Giraffes, etc etc, all met a cruel sadistic end for public entertainment. One million at least.

Hi Arnold, those are very important things to remember about the Colosseum.
I was lucky enough to be able to take a trip to visit the Colosseum in 1991 while stationed in Germany. I don't have any particular memories of how I felt about its history at the time. Since then I have thought about all the violence and death that happened there and it's sad and hard to comprehend. I'm sure I'd have stronger feelings if I visited it again.
