The North African Lion, North African Elephant, became practically extinct in Roman times. Tigers, Leopards, Rhinos, Giraffes, etc etc, all met a cruel sadistic end for public entertainment. One million at least.

Hi Arnold, those are very important things to remember about the Colosseum.
I was lucky enough to be able to take a trip to visit the Colosseum in 1991 while stationed in Germany. I don't have any particular memories of how I felt about its history at the time. Since then I have thought about all the violence and death that happened there and it's sad and hard to comprehend. I'm sure I'd have stronger feelings if I visited it again.
