Whatever type of engine they come up with its going to be bleeding useless to humans anyway, you can't go from 0 to 10,000 mph in seconds or you'll splatter the entire crew into the nearest bulkhead, artificial gravity is the key to space travel because without it humans are going no where fast.

It takes the speed of light (186,000 miles a second) 16 days to reach the outer edge of our solar system, travelling on to the nearest star Proxima Centauri it would take it over 4 years to get there, conclusion, the speed of light is as fast as a bleeding tortoise.
