The definition of life is something that can grow, reproduce and learn naturally.
Plants in general don't really 'learn' but they do adapt which is why plants can classify as life. Machines can not be considered life. Machines cannot grow or reproduce naturally. They have to be upgraded or manufactured. The whole "self-aware" theory is manufactured, not biological so the argument stating that a machine has become self-aware and is now 'alive' is misinterpreted.
