In fact lots and lots of people have been (temporarily) banned for relatively harmless tweets compared to the hate speech and lies twittered by Trump. He was given a fat celebrity bonus and he exhausted it to the limits.

9/11 wasn't that long ago and the resulting War On Terror saw a massive overreach by US intellegence agencies on the lives of Americans. Twitter didn't exist then. One has to wonder that if it had the kind of power it does today would they have been complicit in the actions of Federal government.

Like all companies that are involved in processing personal data (all tech companies are) Twitter & Co are duty bound to collaborate with the NSA. But the Patriot Act is a terrible fault in the US legislation, it's not the companies' problem and I'm not sure if it's predominantly the liberals that support this regulation. Take WikiLeaks for reference.

Media companies are "checked" by market share and profitability. The more lies they tell the less people will believe it. We must not forget that the majority still is guided by common sense (This is why Biden won the election). Sure there are extremists on both sides who want to believe any crap spoon-fed to them. And those will always find "their" paper, TV-network, radio station, messenger, internet news site. So what?
