The one wrinkle is that Red Bull won't be standing still. Winter development may indeed take some of the quirks out of the car, and that Perez would be driving a different car than Albon did in some respects. Not apples to apples you know? Albon has talent, but he just isn't consistent enough for a top team. At least not yet. I suspect he'll get another crack at it, maybe at Alpha Tauri again in 2022.


Aside from technical development, I think signing Perez was the best thing Red Bull could have done to close the gap. It seemed like a no-brainer, but the announcement took so long it made you think it wouldn't happen.


The thing I want to see more than anything is a proper title fight for a change. This might be the year.
