Indeed! The 50's rotozip/sternum proceedure would have made obsidian-blade Mayan priests atop pyramdid altars envious: the real irony came when I was assigned to Federal GSA-guard the MEPS recruiting office on Broadway in miserable downtown Oakland in '98...after three attempts to join three military branches: incl ROTC in the 70's; a brief stint as an ensign; and an appearance at Letterman Hospital SF in '73 for an exam for special forces; all followed by a form-letter from the Surgeon General "declining my services"...I suddenly realized: "I'm not in the military; I'm guarding the military! Be careful what you ask for!"
