Actually I prefer SH5/TWoS because there are too many annoying things in UBOAT that pull me out of immersion. And that will probably stay that way for a long time. I know it's EA and (hopefully) things will change. So I'm trying to give UBOAT a chance once in a while.
Anyway, I am looking forward to trying your method later.

Thanks! Yeah I hear ya on that - UBOAT is playable for me heavily modded and with self-restrictions. It’s very much “once in a while” for me too. My relationship with it is complicated.
