We could go into naming a submarine after a President who wasn't military friendly.

We've already beaten that particular subject to death. Besides, there really isn't a comparison between a mere submarine and a giant carrier that costs a gagilion dollars, has thousands of crewmembers, and will last for 50 years.
Bottom line
1. No more naming ships for people that aren't dead yet
2. Enough of the recent presidents/politicians. There is still too much controversy lingering about what they did in office, who they did in office, are they deserving of the honor, etc.
3. How about those old carrier names we can all get behind and be proud of? Anybody offended by the name
Lexington? How about
Saratoga,
Ranger or
America? Those are real carrier names!
