If you take this route you never need to reinstall again.

You need the originals do do that. There is no reason to reinstall.
This is the preferred method:
Install SH3, patch it to 1.4b.
Now create a folder outside the program files and copy the entire data folder of 1.4b.
Now you have one in the game and another stored to use in the future.
Now install Greywolves.
Make a complete copy of Greywolve's data folder in another outside folder.
You now have Greywolves installed, a back up version of Greywolves and a backup version of 1.4b stock.
If you wanted to try NYGM2.0 you could delete the entire GW data folder in SH3, then copy and paste the 1.4b data folder in SH3.
Now you can install NYGM2.0.
Now make a copy of the NYGM2.0 data folder and you have all three ready to be put in as you choose.
Since all the differences are in the data folder by having complete copies of each you not only have the ability to change your game at will, you can add things like the colored lines and if you mess up, you just delete the data folder and put another in.
No more reinstall and always a complete backup.
