Reminded me of a similar situation here in LA; there was a grand development planned of an ultramodern Design Center complex for all the upscale, high dollar designers and their clientele; all the land was acquired except for one small parcel right in front of the complex's grand entrance:

I recall that at the time the sisters did sell the 'shack', the word was they were reluctant to sell mainly because they didn't really want to upend the business that rented the building as they were very good tenants and had become good friend; however, the property values surrounding the site had soared so dramatically, with the attendant revaluations used to calculate property taxes, the sisters really had little choice but to increase the rent; the monthly of USD $450 was incredibly low for any business in the area...


I've always enjoyed reading about the David/Goliath battles of the little guys; I hope the farmer has a long future of tending his land...
