I think Popov was one of two people who where the inspiration for Ian Fleming's character James Bond. The other is possibly Edward "Eddie" Chapman a criminal who was recruited by the Abwehr while imprisoned in Jersey. He was also the only British citizen to have been awarded the Iron Cross.
