There seems to be a sort of rite of passage for rock guitar players when they are starting out; in the 50s and early 60s, you weren't considered a good player unless you had fully mastered the catalog of Chuck Berry licks; in the mid-60s, being able to accurately play Clapton's Cream-era licks got you the nod; nowadays, it seems, you don't get the imprimatur unless you are able to play Hendrix licks, particularly being able to play Little Wing and/or Voodoo Child (Slight Return); I've seen an awful lot of guitarists on YT, and elsewhere, trying to play Voodoo Child, in particular, but I've always been fascinated by just how many musicians have tried to play the song on instruments other than electric guitar; I found these two examples just recently; the first is a version on solo standup bass that has a sort of jazz feel to the performance; the second is played on an acoustic 12-string guitar and has an impressive rural blues tone, giving yet another example of the blues underpinnings of Hendrix's music...
