As noted in the above article, the current extent of the charges is lying to the Feds; no espionage charges, no charges related to bio-warfare, just plain lying to the Feds; in fact, Dr. Lieber could have legally worked with Chinese researchers and academics, but he failed to fully disclose the extent of his compensation from China, so all he is facing is about five (5) years in Federal Prison and a possible fine of up to USD $250,000...

The interesting aspect of Dr. Lieber is how very highly regarded he is in his field; he is no obscure, disgruntled low level academic researcher seeking to cash in because he isn't getting the recognition he feels he deserves; this guy is way, way up on the academic honors chain and not the usual sort to be involved in the sort of espionage scenarios usually attending this sort of situation. It should also be noted Dr. Lieber's field of expertise is in Nanoelectronics and brain science. in particular the inorganic science aspect of brain/device integrations. This indicates he verily likely is not the sort of expert the Chinese, or any other government would use for a purely organic bio-warfare project...
