1. Due to Windows 10 being so much more proprietary you should never, ever install any games on your 'C' drive, or whatever drive Win10 is installed on. I even went so far as to purchase a new disc just for my games.
2. The 4-Gig Patch (or Large Address Aware) is a must if you're loading any large mods at all. It's a good idea even if you run the game with no mods. I tried to run Iambecomelife's Merchant Fleet Mod for years and it always crashed. Simply applying the 4-Gig Patch fixed it right up.
3. I too run the Compatibility Mode set for Windows 7. It enabled me to play a couple of mods that formerly wouldn't work, and I've never had a single problem.
