Richard "Killer" O'Kane, while XO aboard the Wahoo, had the crew make a turn-table with a model ship in the middle. He would view the model ship thru the objective lens of a pair of binoculars (reversed) from across the officer's mess, while one of the crew tuned the model to various AOB.
O'Kane, got to where he could get within 1 or 2 degrees of actual AOB.
I guess the point is to--practice.
The target's superstructure is square and/or rectangular...use the corners and sides to guess the AOB of a box from across the room.
