hi Stevepine

I do both SH5 and 3 , I'm sorry you have run into problems with SH5 it has been made as pain free as possible and should, if anything be a simpler to setup . There should not be any reason way it should run badly in terms of FPS loading etc even with old systems

Silent Hunter 3 may be a little more easier to get going but only if you don't want all the best mods . Both will mess up if you skip steps or take shortcuts.

For SH3 I have WAC and SH5 WOS they are arguably the best in their groups but there are other very good alternatives .Silent hunter 3 has come a long way in terms of graphics and content the Sub Management is way better than SH5 but lacks in other areas . Silent Hunter 4 is unsurprisingly mid way between he two

Returning to Silent Hunter after taking a break can be difficult, all versions need a little patience setting up if you want to get the best results

Unfortunately all versions of Silent Hunter still have bugs to a degree

There is almost unlimited support if you run into problems

My best advice is to take your time follow instructions to the letter
and follow follow the forums, Most Problems are a direct result of simple ( but easy ) instalation errors

If you want to get of to a quick start add mods individually avoiding conflicts with JSGME and work at your own pace to improve what ever version you chose, experiment a little
