People tend to make a big deal about Mary Tyler Moore and how she was a ground breaking icon in her own series as an independent workingwoman; however it can be argued Rose Marie was a ground breaker even before MT: Rose's character of Sally on the Dick Van Dyke Show was an equal in an office full of men; equally respected, equally listened to, and an equal contributor to the comedy writing team. Her character was not one of those 'secretary' types who made the coffee, did the office work and deferred to the male characters yu so very often saw in early TV shows. Rose Marie and her Sally are deserving of being hailed as the prototypes for those women and characters who came later...
