An english friend (Andrew Brodie) who recently died, unfortunately, is said to have brought one Lightning over to the US for restoration.
He said that with a private pilot licence you are allowed to fly the Lightning only up to Mach 1 in Europe, which would make no sense with this bird. They seem to be less prohibitive in the US..

It is an entirely voluntary project with a lot of supporters, and i heard it is finished to almost 90 percent now.

Of course, rebuilding a Lightning after having restored Citroen SMs is a joke, the Cit is much more complicated
