They are a nice touch, but as has been mentioned, in the game, we are the Captain. I can count on no hands the number of times I have seen my CO sitting Helms/Planes or DIVE or Chief of the Watch (COW). The skipper is supposed to be quarterbacking the team, not filling every position.

As a means of taking control yourself if you want to, sure. But not everyone has the presence of mind to juggle that many things at once in the midst of a complex ASW/ASUW problem. Things like the USS MONTPELIER collision a few years ago happen because of things like that.

The ability to give an order for course, depth, and ESPECIALLY speeds other than the normal bells would be fantastic.

Honestly, I'm surprised that nobody had brought up how we've been handcuffed by the speed system. If I want 12 knots, I'm screwed. If I want two knots, I'm screwed. There are times I DON'T want a standard bell speed, thank you.
