Uplay is no longer used (or operational). If you purchase the disk, it should come with the "key" on the back of the keyboard insert "card" and should be considered as part of the "package" sale. I have two copies of the game, the original disk I purchased in 2007 (to which I added a downloaded v1.5 Add-On from Ubi), and a Gold Edition disk I purchased several years ago. I cannot use the license from the first version on the second version (and vice versa naturatlly). However, when I can talk them into it, my sons play one computer, and I play the other... It is a bit "slow" for them though...
