I forgot to mention that although it looks like its raining sometimes, the crew still isn't dressed appropriately on the deck, and now I've lost my "reference" link... ratz. Maybe someone will come along with more accurate info, but it has to do with the wind, if I'm remembering correctly. Real storms do ebb and flow over the course of time, so it sounds like your weather there was fine, other than you were told it wasn't raining, even though it looked like it was. That is a Stock game issue.
As for shooting at an Aussie vessel, they will sink if hit, just like other vessels. Some of the mods (Traveller's??) do have provisions for a subtraction of Renown points, but most don't. The incident is recorded in the log, and does contribute towards "disciplinary action", but so long as you sink tonnage (usually), you don't run into issues (also "usually"). There will be the occasional issue with promotions though, where you do well, and you end up being "retired" instead of getting a new boat, but that may or may not happen because of "collateral damage" done by you. The game also has its issues in that regard. Let's just say it's not advisable to sink a friendly...
