Snapchat was one of those social media things that was poorly done the first time it was introduced. Due to the nature of the 'self-destructing' images (the images, I believe, were still saved on your phone), it was extremely criticised as a great many teens, especially in the US, used the service for sexting images of themselves. They finally changed the protocol for the app to prevent it, and that's the last I heard.
No worries, Sophia...I'm 17 and barely have a clue about most of the social media out there...I just use Facebook and Google+.
