I noticed the date and size differences you mentioned of the SHIII "Patched" wave files compared to these two originals. Both the original SHIII unpatched game, and SH4 (with five patches!!) have the same .wave files. The Patched SHIII .wav files are different. THAT could be the difference....I've not tried it out myself...yet.
