Nothing should be shown on the nav map in real time. It is, after all, a nav map, so unless you are using a cheat (show truth, show allies, etc.) all you get are representations of sensor solutions.
All ships assigned to the same side are on the link. The scenario designer in this campaign mission did not assign the escorts to the same side, so you're stuck with sensor data unless you want to take the easy way out.
