On a strength to weight ratio, spider silk is one of the strongest materials known to man. So there is a use in 'farming' the spiders for their silk.

But as far as I know, they're looking to make artificial silk based on the natural compounds, and the farming is all done in labs, not in bulk. Nowhere near enough spiders to constitute a farm, let alone one big enough to necessitate a tourist sign!.
