Last I knew the version of WINE in the Ubuntu 16.10 repositories was WINE 1.8.2. However I've gone to the WINE site itself and hooked their repositories up to Ubuntu and am now running 2.0.1. As far as SH4 is concerned makes no difference.
You know, I've never read any Linux books or user guides. So I can't point you in any meaningful direction there.
