If this is during the Norwegian campaign, starting April 10 1940, then it could be a carrier group. I found that out during an earlier career with RuB mod installed. I was fortunate enough to be in the path of the group when I got the contact report, and I managed to close to attack distance and sunk the carrier. Unfortunately the escorts weren't pleased and spent 2 hours real time kicking my ass, ending in my surfacing and surrender. I find that most of the time you are nowhere near a TF when you get a contact report, but those that are near every now and again contain the odd carrier or perhaps a battleship or two.
