I wonder about the binoculars; those two in the pic do look good! Considering the nature and lifestyle of a con-watch crew at all times while surfaced...utterly critical equipment! Being a Civil War reenactor myself and stressing total authenticity I have a correct period pair (practically useless opera glasses-given the inferior prismatics of the era; Bad optics probably cost Lt.Col. Custer the Little Big Horn!) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2319347/Resurfacing-68-years-The-binoculars-taken-U-boat-commander-moments-crew-surrendered-end-World-War-11.html
Zeiss commander 8X 60 "tall ones" for example Great site for die-hards: http://www.gjaltkemp-scheepsantiek.nl/en/antique-maritime-instruments/u-boat-optics/results,31-30.html
